Unicorn Gallery Exhibition: Looking ↑

The PhotographerMy latest photographic exhibition entitled Looking ↑ is currently showing at Unicorn Lane gallery in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia and runs until the end of January 2014. The exhibition is a collection of images taken on my travels and represents distance, speed and spacial juxtapositioning. All works are for sale as photographic or canvas prints. All prints are in limited editions (of 10) and signed by myself. All sales enquires can be directed to myself or the curator Ms Julie Collins (Public Arts Officer, City of Ballarat)juliecollins@ballarat.vic.gov.au

Following is the artist statement for the show:

The aim of my photography is to connect the varied and always interesting aspects of travel. In particular, I strive to capture distance, the sometime loneliness-of-travel, speed, height and of course, the thrill of a pending arrival. Often when travelling there is a neither ‘here-nor-there’ feeling which is an aspect I find fascinating, and a challenge to portray.
One of the best ways in which to explore these combined feelings is through the use of aircraft. The juxtaposition of transient travel against something solid on the ground, offering shapes at varying odd angles, or by making the image incomplete give an insight into the notion of ‘going somewhere.’ Aircraft, when not photographed in a technical and/or scientific way deliver a message of going somewhere, of adventure, of being ‘away,’ and of rapid movement.
All of the above notions are what I strive to portray.

Following are the images being exhibited in the show, the installing and the opening evening.

Weekly photo challenge: Horizons

This image was taken at the end of the driveway on my 10 acre property overlooking the adjacent farm.  The horizon is a constant source of change and dare I say it…inspirational.  What’s more, the cloudscapes are magical.

Floating home

This is my entry into the 12″ by 12″ exhibition at Art is…Gallery in Geelong. This photograph was taken off the coast of France and I have tried to juxtapose the idea of an aircraft floating to its destination, and yachts representing someone’s home – all floating.

The exhibition open this Friday 6:00pm and runs through to the 26th of September 2013, so if you’re in the area drop in 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Merge

This was shot in Melbourne, Victoria.  The speed sign and the aeroplane was what got me as the ‘merge’ of art.  I chose it because most of my photos are about looking up and trying to juxtapose the solidity of being on the ground with the movement of the air.
